Bunnahabhain 23 Year Old - Islay Whisky
50% alc.vol (US 100% proof)
Translation from Gaelic means “mouth of the river”. Bunnahabhain (pronounce Bu-na-ha-venn) is a ‘gentle’ Islay malt. The most northern Islay distillery it produces a soft, light style that originates from the very lightly peated malted barley and lack of peat in the water. Bunnahabhain sources its spring water from the Margadale Spring and thus avoids water running through the peat-beds. The whisky shows floral and fruity tones and is unique to the other Islay malts.
Tasting Note:
Less peaty than other Islay malts. Sweeter and lighter. Smoky nose leads to fruity undertones. Smooth initial palate with distinctive light oiliness, perhaps minty toffee. Soft and clean with a nutty malty sweetness. Very full flavour development. Finish is long with some smoky notes. A lovely aperitif as it's one of the lightest Islay whiskies.
